Renovation completed in 2003
Description
An original Arthur Hills design from 1974 and the key amenity for a planned golf community. Arthur is quoted as describing Wilderness as “a rare and tropical enclave; really a paradise”. To hear him talk about the course, you can sense that it truly one of his favorites. So, when we got the chance to update the course in 2003, Arthur was careful to retain nearly all of the original design intent. My role was to direct the design during construction and make sure that all of the specific design elements were properly restored. The renovation included the rebuilding of all the tees, greens and bunkers as well as new irrigation, drainage and paths. The majority of the fairways were raised in relation to a higher water table elevation than what existed when the course was originally constructed.
